There, I met a renaissance woman, who was about 45 years older than me. She was with a partner from England who was 39 years younger. She became my mentor, encouraging me in my art, photography, and flute playing. WE took making a literary quarterly journal, called Tres Femmes. Margaret introduced me to Gene Damon, (Barbara Grier), the editor of THE LADDER at that time. I started writing to her and contributed my photographs to THE LADDER. This lead to my creating a slide-lecture SLIDE SHOW called THE IMAGE OF THE LESBIAN. Margaret Porter translated the poetry of Renee Vivien. Margaret inspired me to study French. Barbara Grier inspired me to read Lesbian books through her LESBIANA, BIBILIOGRAPHY. One of our TRES FEMMES issues was dedicated to Margaret Porter. Barbara Grier later published a book of these translations when she started Naiad Press.
