As drummer with the ATL band Anima Rising, I performed a concert at The Pagoda (in 1979, I think). I later spent a wonderful weekend there on a romantic getaway w/ my lover at the time, my memory of which inspired my poem “The Pagoda Pool,” which was written in a workshop Rose facilitated at a Dykewriters conference while The Pagoda book was still a work-in-progress. I am delighted that Rose chose to include in her book an excerpt from this poem. Thank you, Rose, and Julie Enzer, and to all the women of The Pagoda. 00:57:39 Sharon Thompson: Addition to previous note on video: additional editing may have been done by others. 00:58:07 Susan Reu: Reacted to "Phyllis Free, Amelia..." with ❤️ 00:58:12 Susan A, Ojibway: Reacted to "Phyllis Free, Amelia..." with 💖 00:58:17 Michele: Reacted to "Phyllis Free, Amelia..." with ❤️ 00:58:37 Phyllis Free Amelia Island FL Timucua Land: Hearing Barb Ester’s song while seeing slides of The Pagoda actually brought me to tears. I stayed at the Pagoda for about 2 months, alternating with Circledance in Melrose and staying with Wiggy, in exchange for doing a slide show lecture, called the Image of the Lesbian. I had previously donated 5 Paintings/Drawings on Paper. I came to The Pagoda to do my Slide Show, somewhat, extemporaneously. My art work was up on the walls in the Theater, and I stayed in the basement back room in preparation for my slide show. It seems to me that Maia was staying in the Attic and I would visit her for coffee. I was there when Z Budapest was there. I remember another amazing dancer, who was staying there in the late 70’s. I watched several Plays-productions in the theater, including one called Cinderella’s after story with Morgana, and a concert. 01:16:58 Abby Bogomolny: Replying to "I only got to stay a..." and the palmetto bugs had an almond aroma... 01:17:00 Michele: Reacted to "so happy drea and I ..." with 👍 01:18:38 Carol H: When my partner and I stayed at the guest house in the early '90s, we didn't find the women residents particularly friendly. The tensions among them were also evident, as meetings were held to resolve conflicts (e.g., some people not wanting others' cats to walk on their cars. In my youth, I believed in Lesbian Nation, but learned that one's lesbianism does not necessarily equate with feminism or true sisterhood (kindness and caring). 01:18:49 DeAnna Hohnhorst: Thank you Rose for telling us this story. .
